Waiting

White shirts, navy blue pants
Creating a sea of students 14 to 18
Waiting to be seen as them not as one
In the long hallway, and the back of the room,
One girl, quietly taking it in
Waiting for final bell,
Waiting
Waiting
Ding

Collect your things
35 left, 10 right, 49 left
Econ test tomorrow
Grab your phone, and the books
Zip the black fat bag, and sling it on your back.
Waiting for your phone,
Waiting
Waiting
Ding

The bus filled quick, as the river after a storm,
Sit down with your bag next to you,
Do not look up, just look down,
The bus jolts forward, four yellow monsters
All moving in a row, to the lower school
Waiting to be let into the building,
Waiting
Waiting
Ding

Faces swarm around the room,
All eager, all young
They scream my name and run to embrace me,
When did they get so tall?
One of the men I respect the most walks in
Waiting for their silence and the papers to print
Waiting
Waiting
Ding

Papers are passed out, pencils and pens
Scratch the black inked white paper
11 boys, twice as many girls,
All waiting for their turn,
To prove to us, that they deserve it
Waiting for the music to start
Waiting
Waiting
Ding

Nine days go by
Classes drag on, longer each day
Begging for the first day back
At the lower school, and the line of children
Talking to each other, grinning line fools.
Waiting for their scripts,
Waiting
Waiting
Ding

Three months go by
Dances are taught and lines are read
Inching towards the day
Where the red curtains play, open and close
Characters are forming, day after day
Waiting for the spotlight
Waiting
Waiting
Ding

Brown Dresses, brown slacks
Techies clad in black
Head to toe, the cast grins wide
Nerves hide within, waiting and wondering
All heads are bent, eyes closed,
Waiting for the Techie Prayer
Waiting
Waiting
Ding
