Waiting

I looked outside

as the cars rolled silently by.

I looked outside

and wondered which one you would drive.

I looked outside

as the rain fell endlessly downward.

I looked outside

and wondered if you, too, would be fleeting like thunder.

What is there in the wind

that gusts and wails through the trees?

What is there in the sunshine

that warms and comforts with the summer breeze?

You would know all these things.

That the sunshine that warms and comforts always comes to an end.

You would know all these things.

That the wind that gusts and wails in the trees always returns to the comdemned.

But you would be there for me.

To hold my hand in the cold.

But you would be there for me.

To lead me through – strong, wonderful, bold.

And I looked outside

as the trees sat captively by.

And I looked outside

and wondered if they, too, ever sought to fly.

And I looked outside

as the people strolled on past me.

And I looked outside

and wondered which one you might be.
