Waiting

I’m sitting on a bench

at a corner.

It looks like it’s going

to rain.

I’m waiting for construction

to begin and for streets

to be laid.

I’m waiting for buildings to be built

and for stores to open their doors

 and all this to happen

in the three directions

other than the one I’m in.

A stray dog visits me.

I give it my McDonald’s

sausage and egg sandwich.

It gobbles it down and then we wait together.
