Waiting and Watching

He pats the kitten with puffy paws and sharp claws,

near the window draped with gauze

and yawns and opens up his mighty jaw

the wrinkled rug beneath him lies,

he watches the world go by with his big brown eyes

waiting for something, anything to happen,

then like a lazy boy he sighs and continues to watch

the world go by with his wise and thoughtful eyes.
