Waiting for the Doctor's Appointment

The whole world is flat today;

Flat and grey.

My brain too;

One flat note-

I do my best to force it;

An injection of cadence;

Cadence and colour.

There’s vaseline on my lips;

To hide that I’m dehydrated

And haven’t made it to bed

Since Monday night.

I’m not sure when shiny

became the new healthy.

My skin is flaking white and blue

Specks that turn grey

when they hit my felt coat.

My sister told me,

“Blue ain’t your colour girl.”

I agreed. But that never meant

That I was supposed to wear

so much blood. Oh my beloved,
Why don’t you stop that rain?

I’m so damned tired of the clouds.
