Waiting for Happiness

Lately I've been finding That however hard I try Happiness is always out of reach. Believe me, I want it. I want to be happy so badly, My soul aches for it. Every morning I tell myself that it'll be a good day, I try to avoid pointing out all my flaws in the mirror, I try to be nice to people, I try to put on a smile and say, "I'm fine" Because I can fake it until I make it, right? Right? Wrong. It's so hard to keep trying With the same techniques, The same routine. Day-in and day-out, Putting on a smile, Saying I'm "okay", Waiting for something, Anything, To change. I've been waiting for happiness. Hoping it'll come to me one day And finally stay. And not just because of a guy, Or because of a simple, magical moment, But true happiness That will stick around for the long haul. I want to be happy when I wake up in the morning. When I look in the mirror and decide I love myself. When I've just had a long day and manage to find peace Instead of the bone-weary tiredness that I can't escape from. So, maybe instead of waiting for happiness I should chase it. Even it it means running away From everything I've ever known. Because my childhood home doesn't feel like home anymore, And I don't believe I can love anyone, And I'm tired of feeling sad. Oh, if only it was that easy, To leave everyone behind, To leave my town in the rear-view mirror As I drive away. If only I had the courage To embrace change In the hopes that everything will work out In the end. If only I believed that happiness could be found By running away. If only I believed that it was something That could be found. So, I guess I will continue waiting. Waiting for things to change, Waiting for tides to turn, Waiting for happiness.
