The Wake

It was as if I had awoken from a strange dream;
A dream where endless possibilities roamed.
The kind of wonderful dream you never want
To leave behind in the dark.
Childhood-The very essence of life,
Disappearing in a single moment, lost in time
The moment never to be recovered.
And in that brief glimpse of time;
That one solitary moment;
A life is changed forever, never to return
To the way it was before.
Despairing-The truths that settled in around me,
So dark and desolate, consuming my every joy.
Darkness seemed to take over.
I searched and searched for the light,
But it was always just out of reach.
I could never go back to the innocence;
The strangle childish beauty
That allowed us to dream of things
Our minds could never see in the daylight hours.
Only then we could see.
For our eyes were full of that essence.
Everything was magick,
Everything was pure and wonderous.
And then....everything was not.
Now I wish I had held on tightly;
Held on to that spark of life.
Now it seems life is already dead.
