Wake of Actualization

Bound concretely in a confounding hypocritical surrounding,
Undistinguishable beings travel through life as one,
For normalcy permits neither strange nor astounding.
Abandonment of self rampantly invades; courageousness all do shun.

Yet some hold true to ever pressing demands of heart,
Time has shown evidence of these boundless souls.
Ancient to modern soldiers of nonconformity dictate history's part,
Forever setting future possibilities and inventing new inconceivable roles.

Colored men and women, although suppressed by all,
Charged steadily through time's destructive degradation,
Rising in names of hope against fear to stand tall.
Through perseverance, a black man now rules the nation.

Documented steadily, women have always been viewed as less.
Rulers, witch hunters, and angry men have halted their lives,
Stoning them if they refuse to pray or wrongly dress.
And now they are fighters, not just hidden wives.

Love takes no singular gender hostage,
Nor does love stay in the confines of opposite embodiments.
Millions now show terrific courage in breaking the straight bondage,
Giving hope to others, or in their fears, making dents.

Today's standards do not dictate manner of style or looks,
Markings and variety are embraced, usually, as forms of art.
Personalities of those with self-honesty may be displayed, open books;
One and all may color the land; we are united, in Earth's tapestry, but our own part.

Freedom holds reign no matter what religious choice,
In this, while many views you may claim, others may range.
Due to those brave questioners, our opinions we now openly voice.
Although not always accepted, we have the power of making change.

Many break the statistics; inner city, pregnant youth, and homeless.
Probabilities mean nothing to the determined and willful,
Higher living and an existence of great proportion to anyone can bless,
Under conditions of breaking the past and not being conformity's fool.
