Wake and wait...

When you were in preschool you learned how to write your name
The letters
R.U.B.E.N
O.R.L.A.N.D.O
B.E.N.I.T.E.Z
But were you writing your name or were you writing letters
Never thinking your name would turn into a number
People called you by Ruben &Mr. Benitez
But did you appreciate that!?
Did you appreciate a name!?
Did you appreciate letters
You can put two letters together to make a word but do you really understand the meaning of the word if you broke up the letters
But now people identify you by a number
The Number 182157
But we were taught a number was just a number
It's not a name
it's not a person
it's not you
The number 182157 will forever stay 182157
But you!?
You will forever stay my father!
So I wake up and wait
Wait till your voice sinks through my phone
Wait till I hear the voice of a trapped man
Wait till I hear the advice, the encouragement, hear the happiness
Wait to hear the sadness
Wait to hear a man that is paying his faults all at once
Wait to hear my father once again
So I wake up and wait
Because if I didn't wait I wouldn't wake!
