Wal-Mart is Ghetto
Wal-Mart is Ghetto
Will Dodge
Halls full of seventh graders talk and high-five
In their cashmere jackets and A&F polo’s
$170 jeans with the new flip flops
Squeaks come from the new basketball sneaks
The fur cloth rubs from their North Face’s
I’m different though
I wear the old, the thrift, and the unwanted
I take the $10 sneakers with thanks
And I sew the holes up on the cloth with ease,
Promising myself that one day
It would all be better
The popular walk daintily
As I fight to keep my sneaker soles on
There is no one else like me
No one from the Ridgeville apartments
No one born on a couch
No one living in a leaking roof condo
No one like me
Jenna what’s her face walks by me
“Wal Mart is sooo ghetto” she says
I want to hit her
She doesn’t know
She really doesn’t know.
