Walk on By


How can you do that?

How can you just walk on by without hesitation?

While he sits over there and hasn't eaten in days.

Clothes full of holes and doesn't even own a toothbrush.

All the necessities that you take for granted are missing from his life…

And you just walk on by…


But we all do it, even I’m guilty.

We tell ourselves that we don't have the time or we have nothing to give.

That we have our own problems in our own lives to deal with.

So we just walk on by.


But what if that man was you?

If people called you lazy and wouldn't look you in the eye.

And they told you you were dirty and made you feel like you were nothing.

And you're starving and you're hungry and no one will give you a chance.

And the ones that do can't give enough,

To get you back to a life that feels worth living.


But life doesn't seem worth living and no one seems to care.

When you spend all your nights in the freezing cold air.

When you're doing all you can but people still judge you.

And when the people you called friends can't even look at you.

When you've got no one left in the world and you're out there alone.

And all you want is someone to stop and ask you if you're fine.

But no, they just walk on by.


And people walk by not knowing where you've been.

That you've got a diploma or that you served in the navy.

Or that you've tried to find a job but no one will hire,

Because you can't brush your hair or get clean in t
