A Walk Along Fort Warden Beach

Sunshine piercing through the branches of the dark, vast forest above.

I walk along the wet sandy beach,

Feeling small in the shadow of the towering cliffs.

Out of sight, out of mind, out of reach.

Debris from the sea fresh from the tide,

Spills across my path as far as my eye can see

Broken crab and clamshells, piles of driftwood,

An artists' treasure-trove, by nature made free.

Faint silvery mist arising from the seaweed-strewn shoreline.

The morning light creeps further ahead,

Where once was shadow, brilliant colors flash.

I pity those still in bed.
