The Walk of Life

Dear self,

What if I told you I never walked alone?

Came from a happy home

With parents who were married

And family members that got along

Yet my story is quite different

A single mother, 2 children

Hopes and dreams the world would be their oyster;

That's not the case for me

Still fighting crooked police, gang violence and the streets

Just to make it to college and become finacially broke

With emails containing the deadline of when they're sending me home

My mother does this by herself

I look for any way I can help

Yet I fail

I'm the reason for the hard times that my family face

I'm the reason my mom has two jobs and isn't taking a break

To find a better life was the reason that I left

Now I face returning with no degree

Just debt.
