Walking on the Sun

I’ve never marched before.
The street is full.
You’re tall.
I take your hand, unwilling to lose you.

Rainbows everywhere.
Flags of different colours.
I get one on each cheek.
Purple and green.

We walked in the parade.
It’s loud.
I love the music.
We dance, all of us, as we move.

We are safe here.
It started with a fight.
A riot.
They say.

And it’s true.
But if you poke a bear, the bear will attack you.
We were the bear.
We’re fighting back.

Giants.
I don’t think so.
More like heroes.
They deserve the title.

Maybe one day, I will too.
You already do.
