War

Shoot me down.

Take me out.

Crush me with the pain.

All you ever do is hurt me.

Our love is a battlefield.

Full of constant arguing and low blows.

You were once a moon shining brightly in the innocent night sky.

You illuminated this adolescent field with light.

But the eclipse of reality revealed a new side of you.

I now look with eyes wide open.

I’m adjusting to the darkness,

But it hasn’t gotten any easier to see.

I never wanted this war.

I hate thinking of you as the enemy.

How can I not when you’re aiming the barrel at my chest?

Using my heart as a bullseye in your temper filled target practice.

I can’t back down though I want to walk away.

I fear that someday this war will end and we’ll never see each other again.
