War

Wrapped in a blanket under a bed hides a little girl

Bombs light up the sky

She wonders if she is going to die

She can hear gunfire near by

Women weep, strong men break

Nothing changes day by day

It’s all the same

Some woman’s child, some fathers smile

Life has just begun

Bleeding on the ground

Death is everywhere

The stench, the flies, the tears

The blood, the rubble, the noise

The constant fear

Under a bed a young girl is hiding, praying for safekeeping

I just can’t pray anymore
