The War on Women
This war is not new,it has been going on for generations and generations, but why has it not cease to exist?
This war is not invisible, it walks right in front of us draped in king's garments, covered in
rubies and diamonds, and yet we don't resist?
What part of violence on women is so appealing?
what is so glorious about this process we've labeled healing?
A story of parents who threw acid in their daughter's face, murdered her for standing to close to a boy, which is potential for disgrace.
That is our war
A girl who had the courage of 1,000 nations, to simply request her fellow women have the proper education, shot in the head.
Luckily, she survived, so some may view this as a step in the right direction.
That is our war.
Two women, raped on a moving bus. One thrown to the streets bleeding. Now has the accused men pleading, NOT guilty.
That is our war.
In Ohio, yes the great nation that we call land of the free, a girl beaten and peed on by the local football team, as she struggled to breath.
That is our war.
Little girls being kidnapped and gang raped!
Need I say more?!
That is our war.
Why do we not raise our voices?
Why do we not stand tall?
Why don't we break through the barriers of an oppression filled history?
Why don't we tear down the walls? Of limited possibilities?
Why do we settle for the reasoning, that our level of intelligence is of a lesser being?
We hear whispers of what some consider change.
Then sit back and accept that the fact still remains.
That the decision to bear a child out of my vagina, is on an opinionated poll for the rest of the world to vote on.
Open your eyes and see that our basic human rights are being stripped away.
And words like equality, opportunity, equity, and independence are now powerful statements to make.
When we should have had them in the first place.
The whole thing is wrong!
Why must we label women's rights a cause?
We are only different in molecular and genetic make-up.
Wake-up!
That what's between our legs or on our chest, can now a days be changed by a doctor's decision on what to cut next.
It's time.
It's time to take back what should have been ours.
It's time to be brave, bold and beautiful.
It's time, I feel, to full fill the destiny that is written in the stars.
It's time to uplift each other like hickory support beams.
It's time, to decline, the offer of misogyny, and re-invent Wollstonecraft dreams.
It's time to stop portraying sexy as being on a magazine cover half-naked.
Or forcefully making them cover every inch of their body so the only thing visible is their eyelids.
It's time to stop thinking there is nothing we can do and start thinking about what we can.
It's time to show we won't back down.
Why?
Because we are women.
