Warning Signs I Couldn't See

You said “I love you” and “I will never put anything above you”

But what am I supposed to think when none of that comes true?

You could always get your way because I was so afraid of being alone

And didn't want you to leave me

But you took advantage and chose to deceive me

Now I'm more in love with your memory

Then the person standing right in front of me

And when I began to question things, they told me relationships aren't always alright

But little did I know that if it's all the time, someone's not doing it right.

if you say you’re doing it right, then why does it feel so wrong.

And if it's right, why have I let these tears stream down my face for so long.

You told me what to do

And made me believe what wasn't true

You forced me to push away the ones who just wanted to help, love, and support me

Just so you could turn your back to hurt, put down, and destroy me

And the next day you’d come back so I followed you with blindness

Standing there, poison on your lips

As you sugar-coated the hate with kindness

Those hateful words you spat felt like little kisses on my skin

And when people asked why do you stay, I didn’t know where to begin

I began to realize that this love wasn’t true

but the only thing you could say was that I hurt you because I love you

At this time I finally knew that you weren't my destiny

But at that point, you had already made a mess of me

Now I've been left in the street with tears in my eyes

But I'm going to watch you run away and wait for them to dry

And even though I'm torn apart, another day the sun will rise.
