THE WARRANT

1. Perhaps, the gold wedding band that adorned her finger was his warrant,
To pummel and trammel the woman he vowed to love;
In sickness and in health.

2. A fist to her face didn't only break her nose,
Her heart also came crashing down,
And away it took her breath,
She gasped and gasped.

3. A kick to her side didn't only make her blood run cold,
Her tears also came coursing down,
And away it washed her strength,
She bled and bled.

4. Perchance, the marriage certificate that lay in the drawer was his licence,
To batter and embitter the mother of his children;
Unborn and miscarried.

5. Would she stab him with a jagged piece of her mangled heart?
Or take a stab at fleeing?
Alas, she gave neither a thought nor a shot.

6. She was still enraptured by him, he was still her husband after all,
And love would conquer all eventually,
With some sheets of hope and several barrels of love, she built a castle of denial,
And lived there unhappily ever after.
