The Warrior and The Star

She:

A fighter for those who couldn’t fight,

Born into anti-semitism

Bullied and chastised

Wanting inclusion

Fought until it happened.

And he:

Too in tune with the piano to experience the world

Born in the emerald city

Raised with music

Waiting for new symphonies

From composers long gone.

Both infatuated with the art

of knowledge

And they met

And it was decided.

They married on the lake

Her blue dress mimicking the water

Flowing in tune with her steps like a velvet sea

His tie glowing in the light

Sparkling with every color

They moved to an emerald city

Where they had two children,

A warrior and

A star

The warrior fought the monsters in the backyard

Screaming, running, and

Brandishing  his sword to

Protect his family and

Himself.

The star sang to the cafe

Radiating a stark white light

Bathing in all the praise and attention

Not aware of anything but

The song.

The warrior grew stronger,

He fought the monsters in the backyard

And the spasms in his brain

Until nothing disturbed him.

The star began to grow dim,

Her heart sputtered against her chest

Her breaths harder, her thoughts faster

Her light grew dimmer.

The warrior grew too strong,

Too strong to stay.

He left as a note

But was remembered as a symphony.

The star was hidden behind a black hole

She was swallowed by the warrior’s armour

Shaking hands hidden under

Sleeves too long

Grey eyes darkened by oversized hoods

The star moved through the world, alone

Behind shaking hands, and flickering eyes

Her light continued to dim.
