"Wasted"

Hope is such a wasted word,

Spilling its poisonous juices down from my teeth

Feathers litter my shower drain,

Polluting my fingernail polish

Where the snake venom grows.

How can my blood clean the dirt in my mouth?

Neon lights flood the streets

But where can the woodpecker go, if not home?

My bedpost rains down silken goodbyes

That I never could say in the day.

Sulfur fills the public restroom and all of the food has rot.

My monstrous appetite thrives from this cracked, cement hunt.

Oh, maybe a plastic bird can call me back--

Out of this trip down memory lane.

Down down down Down

It’s never safe--

Where can you hide?

I’m always there,

Right inside your mind.
