Like Water

I loved you, ya know? Kinda like that way you feel when your being dragged under water by the current You can't fight it, it's way too powerful Your body feels weak and it's left to your mind power And in the back of your mind you know You know that the only way to get through it is to relax To let your body ease and let the water take you where ever it is headed That was the way I loved you I fought it, I tried so hard to keep my head above water and not fall for you I swam against the current and put all my efforts into staying afloat But in reality, I was helpless I was meant to fall in love with you And so I did I let go of my stubbornness and eased my fearful heart I opened up to you and let you fill me up with your love The way the water would rush over your body and head and mind Into every crevase you have and fill you up completely That was the way I loved you When I let go, when I eased into the flow and let you take me over That was when I saw what I had done I knew I had done wrong and made the water rough And so you punished me You hit me with your words and cut me with your bitterness You beat me raw with goodbyes and flaws and I took every punch The way rapids rush you in every which way The way jagged rocks tear at your soft flesh But I forgave you That was the way I loved you It's funny, how unpredictable a body of water can be It can be smooth sailing for hours on end, then strike you with a storm There will never be a warning until seconds before arrival You'll be completely unprepared and it will hit you out of no where You were a little something like that It seems, we had many a day of smiles and laughs and love We had hours upon end of the most perfect love I could imagine But then, then is when it would come, like a flash flood The anger, the accusations, the "findings" and grinding of gears Those storms were the worst of all, they always hit home You put me on a rollarcoaster I could never have imagined in my wildest fears You were wild like the water, but I was hooked That was the way I loved you If ever you stop for a second to look around you, you'll see it Water has a way of being surrounded by the most beautiful things in life You don't want to blink for risk that you might miss a sight And believe me when I say you should never, ever look away You were unmatched beauty far more than what was shown on the outside Every bit of your existance was perfection with flaws that I adored See the water can take you no where, if it itself hasn't also let you in It must accept you into its being and envelope itself in you and you in itself When you're floating down that river, you are a part of it When you let me in, and showed me who you are inside, I cried I saw nothing but sunlight, burning so bright, no flaw could ruin you You were perfect to me, like the water That was the way I loved you There are a few thing neccessary to life Breath, nurishment, and water When you're surrounded by water, there is one thing you ought to know You will never, ever go thirsty The taste of fresh water on your lips is so vital, so pure One can simply not live without it, there is no replacement You were that drink of water for me I needed to drink you up constantly and never get enough You were my necessity and I couldn't be without you You were all that I really needed That was the way I loved you But as any and every river does, it has an end It will slowly but surely trickle into nothing Every mile becoming more and more shallow, till your feet can touch the ground That first step is a doozy, watch out, you can still float on top Bask in that glorious water for just a minute longer, get all you can I knew the end was coming for us, but I wasn't ready I wanted more of you, I wanted you to keep me forever, I would have for you But as any and every river does, it has an end And you said goodbye to your swimming companion You threw me off onto the shore and dripped away from me And as the tide will always change, you turned and went away You left me cold and soaking wet, staring as my home fell out of sight I stared after you in hopes you would return That was the way I loved you As the sun does its job and dries all that is wet, you evaporated My clothes dried, my skin dried, and a little bit of me died So what is there left to do but to start walking After floating so long in a river, one must find where they have been taken And so I begin my journey to find where I am now But as I walk in a new direction, I find that I am parched No juice, no fluid will do any good for me, all I need is water All I know, is my water Every drop will remind me of you Every drink will make me remember You'll stick with me forever sunshine, Because that, is the way I loved you
