Water and You

Him

with a heart suppressed

by simmering coals

filled with

malice and regret.

Him

with a voice that

charmed away my freedom

and robbed me of the naïve soul

I never knew I had.

Because I love you

were the words that

would never break through

his cracked lips.

They were never even seen

dancing around the flames

of his increasingly

manipulative mind.

I feared I would never know

what it was like

to hear those sweet words

pierce through

my scorched, blackened ears.

Then I met

You.

You

with soft, rose colored lips

that only form

wholesome words

of kindness and transparency.

You

with warm water

peacefully flowing through

the veins of your pure

and untainted heart.

Because I love you

are the words that

you not only say

but embody.

They are the wind that move

your waves of compassion

closer and closer

to me.

I am filled with wonder

that I have the pleasure

of swimming steadily forward

in this unvarying ocean of love

with you.
