Water is my Air

The voice through the robotic monitor Tells me to take my mark. Once I hear that buzzer, My mind is silent, my body takes over. Miles and miles of the black line Tiled onto the pool floor Has shaped who I am. It has been present for over half of my life And it never leaves me, Whether I am going through trouble, Or I am walking on water. The water is my air. When I swim, I can breathe. There is loud quiet From the waves around me Crashing into my eardrums, Washing away my worries. Nothing else matters, I am in touch with myself And I am in full control. When that robotic monitor tells me To take my mark, All of my hard work, Blood, sweat, tears, Trials and tribulations, Have shaped me. But since I am in control, And I am in the water, I can breathe, I can survive anything. It has taught me how to learn, How to improve, How to breathe. The water is my air. And it shaped who I become, Like the waves form sand on the beach From rocks on the shore. The water is my air.
