The Waterfall

I breathe in the crisp morning air and close my eyes

All I hear is the rushing of water

My heavy breaths don’t seem to matter anymore

For a second everything drifts away

All of the schoolwork and the college applications

In this moment those are nothing but distant memories

I feel at peace

Everything is okay because this moment exists

I open my eyes, refreshed

I turn back toward the trail

Toward my life

Toward school and college and hard decisions

I begin the way back

I have to keep going
