Waves

I am an ocean.

On the surface I am bright, filtering light through my water, casting warmth on little fish who play in my waves, dodging the toes of the tourists who touch their feet to my foamy hands.

But deeper

There are currents and chasms that no one has ever seen. There are fish - dark fish, scary fish, fish with teeth but no eyes - that would give you nightmares.

There is no day, no night

Only depths

That can be felt

but not seen.

Under all these depths the pressure and cold is numbing until all you can feel is the beat of your heart

in your fingertips.
