The Way I Am

Most people do not like me-

But I can live with that.

Perhaps I am too honest…

But that’s just where I’m at.

If you always tell the truth, friend-

You won’t get caught in lies-

And if you listen closely…

There will be no rude surprise.

A temper, yes, I have one-

And I likewise have a heart-

That’s not completely calloused-

And a head, not all that smart.

I have a reputation,

I’m accruing every day…

To never leave one doubting-

Just what I meant to say.

So take me, friend, or leave me-

I don’t have time to spare-

If I don’t suit your fancy-

I, frankly, do not care!
