The Way of Poetry

The way the pencil moves across the page is like magic.

Back and forth it goes.

The reason why I love poetry is because

you can go as far as you want to go.

You can tell stories, you can express feelings,

you can be whoever you want.

You can pretend to be a princess, the President,

or even an astronaut.

Poetry teaches you to be witty.

Always thinking of words that rhyme.

This word or that word,

now we don’t have much time.

But here’s the thing about poetry

it teaches you patience.

Looking for the right word is crucial

even if you are impatient.

Poetry has taught me to be myself.

Write down everything about who you are.

Because when it comes down to it,

we are all shining stars.

In His eyes, in your eyes,

even in my own too

Poetry teaches us to be free

Isn’t that all we ever wanted to do?
