The Way of War

No parent should have to bury their child, No spouse their husband or wife; But such is the way of war, When death’s valued over life. Upon the silent battlefield, Lie the bravely fallen young; The pale faces of those who died, ‘Fore life had truly begun. Sons, daughters, women and men, Off to war, never seen again; Screams cut short by the enemies hand, But such is the way of war. And when the dust finally settles down, And the battle a thing of the past, We take a moment to remember those, Who gave life so peace could last. Many years later, a daughter stands, As tears run down her face, At the tomb of a man she’ll never know, A father pointless war erased. No parent should have to bury their child, No spouse their husband or wife; But such is the way of war, When death’s valued over life.
