We Are

Founded in promise,
Taken by force,
But of death
Comes creation,
But of life,
Only pain,

And oh, we are.

The hues of brown,
The shades of black,
Bend them to your fear,
Demand they forget,
Feed them the big sleep,
Blame them for your sins,

And oh, we are.

Turn your back,
Or change your heart,
Shift your upward gaze,
To your brother,
For we are many,
And we are one.

Oh, we are one.
