We Are All Liars
We all hide.
Hide away from the truth.
Hide from our feelings inside.
Which we learned in our youth.
We are all liars.
As a closeted poet, I hide
poetry taught me so, even at my lowest.
When we write we erase
And erase
And erase...
Until the truth is unrecoverable.
Our words are to sharp,
to blunt if they shall hear,
to depressing
to quiet
too loud for certain ears.
Even in our written language we hide.
We our taught to speak and think in a simple language
feelings and emotion is a foreign language,
a language we are never taught.
Speak your mind they say,
write it out they say
but what they actually mean is go hide...
In poetry people hide,
we write our feelings first,
but then we erase
And erase
And erase...
Until our feelings become contoured into a beautiful story that no
longer tells the truth.
We hide the truth.
We all hide because we are scared,
we are ashamed,
we are guilty
and we are defined by the truth.
The truth is a scary,
ugly monster who sneaks up on you while you sleep
peacefully in your mask you designed yourself.
The mask to hide the pain, guilt and fear.
Poetry taught me so...
Poetry is a devil in disguise hiding the truth right between the lines.
Between the lines it stays,
the truth of all those who hide.
We are all liars.
