We Are The Children
The teacher arrives
So does the falsity
The students
Lining up in the halls
Emotionless,
Nervous
Their pale blue shirts
Paint an eerie glow on the white walls
They stand
They sit
Quietly
The books fill their bags
They are watched
They pretend to forget
They are silent
To talk of drugs
No, we are the school
To talk of sex
No, we are the adults
To talk of misbehavior
No, we are the teachers
They observe to be content
They leave their students
With a promise of good
The teachers are gone
A secret world opens
To talk of the crazy
Yes
The funny and the serious
Yes
The “legal” and the truth
Yes
The love, the lies, the hate
We say Yes
We are the children
