We Are Proud
We are proud to say,
We are American in every way.
Every morning we stand and face our flag,
Not one smile droops or sags.
There are some of us who rise with the dawn, and place flags on our front lawns.
We stand and face the greatest hate,
The strongest and the bravest come from these United States.
Because we have the right and freedom to stand,
Our voices can be heard all across the land.
We can scream, we can shout,
We have the right!
So run about.
Day and night we give our silent thanks,
To those who rose in the ranks,
Only to be taken away
By a bullet, the very next day.
Year after year,
Many grew in fear
That they were to be next.
To silently watch the chest
That now holds their fallen comrade
Who had done everything to protect
Our happiness,
Our hopes,
Our rights,
Our dreams
Journeying home to find respect
On their breast, proudly displayed
All the medals that caused their delay
Stern though their faces may be,
They have sorrows like you and me.
Orderly they march through the streets,
Tend by ten,
Oh look! There’s Pete!
Everybody waves and shouts
When the veterans come about.
Honoring those here and gone,
The list is growing and it’s long.
Our colors fly every day,
In our hearts, we’re here to stay.
Nothing anybody says or does,
Will make us relinquish our determined love
Because of the brave
Though their fate may be grave,
We have the right to protest.
What we sometimes forget
Is that we were all a part of it.
A world where things go bad
Sometimes the results are sickeningly sad.
But we must remember that we are unique
We have things, like freedom of speech.
So next time you want to yell about war
Think how they feel,
Would you want more?
So keep your pride and spirit high,
It’s not as hard as it sounds.
Just take a good look around.
Pick out the things you love,
Something rare, like a white dove
Remember how those things came to be,
And love your country.
Not as I,
But as We.
