We Are Redeemed by Joshua Dolash
Out of Egypt came multitude of slaves, a people rescued by the Lord.
In them was a hope for the nations, a way to be restored.
The covenant of a coming Messiah; it was in their blood.
Through them would be a Savior born for world; God’s son.
A group more numerous than the grains of sand escaped out of a great land,
To the wilderness where God’s commands were stone written;
To a place where the wicked in their midst were snake bitten.
Their God continuously purged these peoples’ sin and rebellion
With a rod of discipline and a hand of forgiveness.
Then, for 400 years in the Promised Land, Judges were sent and spent,
But the people desired a new royalty; a new leader other than their God.
Israel’s faithlessness demanded a king and the LORD’S heart began aching;
After giving them their desire, they then felt the wrath of the kings’ fire.
And so dynasties came and went dripping the blood of innocents on their hands;
The populous were led to darkness; in all places, idols filled the lands.
The prophets of the Holy One were slaughtered.
Therefore, invaders came; ravaging lions prepared to destroy an arrogant nation.
Off to the North and East went the exiles of Samaria and Jerusalem, a pompous people brought low;
If only they had heeded the warnings of Isaiah and changed their way during Hosea.
Through their history is a love story of a graceful God
Perverted, full of iniquity and injustice were the Children of Jacob
Yet the Almighty, whose forbearance is proof of his tenderness towards us,
Spared a remnant of Israel that would return.
Though Israel had lived in greed, lust, and did all sorts of evil;
The Lord who, while having the power, did not obliterate them completely;
But instead, He gathered them once again under His wing like a hen would with her chicks;
To show you how he forgives those with repentant hearts.
He is perfect and his law is too hard that we always fail
And that is why in Bethlehem, a Messiah was born to die.
For the world’s faithlessness, God showed us faithfulness;
For our disobedience, the one and only Son of God willingly gave himself up in obedience;
In obedience to the Great Promise He had made at the beginning of the world:
His sacrifice on the cross that we may live forever with him!
