We Are the Stage

There are indeed,
Things that we can’t see.
Living beings that swim and move.
Organisms that we depend on
To understand happiness and health,
For until we have experienced sorrows,
The invisible being’s purpose,
We will always take a smile for granted.

The questions rush through my brain;
What is the purpose? What knowledge will I gain?
Will the answers be friendly?
Will I discover the key to man’s existence?

I’m fascinated by the myriad of colors
The graceful movements unfold,
Like swans in a ballet.
My eyes strain in hopes to
Detect the subtle movements;
The uniqueness that no one has seen before.

Boom! Clash! Bang!
The performance crescendos into climax.
Now the purpose is revealed.
Unique in shape and color, the beings
Hold the answers to my questions.
My heart increases in its beat. I know that I am on the ledge
Between obliviousness and discovery!

Then, with a whisper as soft as an infant’s hair,
The play culminates; the beings retire to their secrecy.
Leaving me with even more questions to ponder.

There is a world out there,
Where we do not speak the language,
Where invisible organisms dance,
A world where we are the stage.
And while there are many questions still unanswered, there is one truth:
The microscope tells no lies.
