We Can Be Us
The world is blind to everything
that is beneath a drape or sheet.
It's too much work to see the glorious piece
underneath that thin covering. Nobody wants to work,
but when deprived of sense, they are like a starving animal,
eager to fill themselves to satiety.
It is almost as if they need a hidden object just to know they can see.
But the reality of the matter is we are only used to the advantaged,
unveiled piece that we see in the exhibitor’s box.
We do not work to make that art,
we do not work to hold an auction or viewing,
we only see the last step.
In a sense, that is our work. We expect,
We assume that it is the only thing we can do.
Many will tell you, that no, we can make that art,
We can hold that auction.
No we cannot.
As a collective, as a collection, we are owned by each other,
we try to sell each other.
But we cannot be artists contained in the whole of an exhibitionist.
We…we as us, not we as all; us can make art.
Us can sell our art, but we cannot sell.
If us sell, we can see from only the outside but us can see from the inside.
So we can become us, so we can make the art that us make,
so us can see from the outside, and we can see from the inside.
In the end, that is the goal, so we can be us.
