As We Got Older

As we got older I realized what I truly needed to know,

As we got older we got new and bigger responsibilities,

We got told what to do, directions to follow

You taught me to go against the flow, but now I know the truth

Yes the flow isn’t always right but it’s stable and safer

As we got older I grew wiser realizing who to trust

You were not on my trustworthy list as I got wiser

To many stabs in the back makes you become wiser with your trust

I’m gonna leave before you sharpen your knife

As we got older I realized there is healing from the pain you caused

The recovery started when you were gone

I no longer feel the pain that you caused

Because it will not happen again

As we got older I realized not only am I special

I am chosen, but not by you

I was taught I was not only chosen but loved

A special loved person
