We Have Become

Have you seen what I’ve become? Our brothers and sisters fought and still fight So that someday we would not struggle as they did. Brother Malcolm X wanted to bring justice, And like every brother and sister before him Was not simply an army of one. The fight for equality was intently so hard, But how could one word bring about such pain? Through my own blood and tears I now understand. I ask you America, have you seen what I’ve become? I am neither black nor white nor any color; I stand as the citizen. Can you follow in my footsteps as one?
