We Just Don't Know
We just don’t know about the lady
Who holds the hands of a toddler and a baby
The only things left in her purse are a 5 and food stamps
As she enters the store, head hung low, she prays
For God to help her see better days
Her happiness slowly withering away
Her faith as small as a mustard seed
She turns to the man on the street
We just don’t know about the guy
Who says he’s too old to try
As he sighs picking up his few belongings
Long since given up his longing
Of ever belonging to a society
That never accepted him or gave thought to his existence
Jobless led to homeless
Everything gone in the blink of an eye
Surviving became an instinct, a habit
It’s not that he wasn’t trying
No one seemed to be hiring
Society wasn’t buying, his cry for help
Many didn’t give,
Because they thought he lived on dope on a daily basis
He was broken because he had to cope with these accusations
Idiocracy made people believe that drugs were sufficient
As he pours his begging cup on the floor
He wonders what he’s living for
His sad eyes look towards the boy running out the door
We just don’t know about the boy
Who toys with his life as if playing a game
Dodging bullets made with perfect aim
Earned his name from the fame of his game strategies
Indomitable they call him, Indie his nickname,
A child who could never be tamed
As he stops behind the store filled with shame
Tears trickle down his shirt
No snitching, shows no fear
A moral learned since birth
Frustrated he kicks the dirt
His head turns toward the girl in the window
We just don’t know about the girl
Who lives in a confused world
She stares at her textbook knowing all the answers
Never lived a life more crueler
No one can see through her
The prettiest in the class still feels insecure
Doesn't know how much longer she can endure
The lady, guy, boy, and girl
All living in the same twisted world
Living life the way it was planned for you
Looking up, they know there is nothing they can do
Pray, work hard and strive
The only equation to survive
They all know
There's no way around it, that’s the only way to go
Well so they thought
But what they don’t see is that their future is more than the pupil of the eye can reach
Their destinies will change the clock of time
They just have to keep holding on and stay strong
Even though they’ve been told this from far too many for far too long
That one step they take every day
Believing that there will come a day
Where their lives will change so abruptly
And suddenly their past will be but a blur
Lost in the sands of time
So when the climb gets hard get a better grip
And don’t worry God will catch you if you slip
Because when he rises you from the ashes and remolds you
In all your glory you will look back on your past
As if it were a mask,
They were just fulfilling his task before they casted it aside
They had gotten to their breaking points
Breaking points that become memories
Memories that became best selling stories
Yeah, they were about to break but they survived
Because they started thanking
They turned their tears into laughter
Their sorrows into joy
An example to the rest
That things happen for a reason, and everything has its season
So when we start thanking instead of cursing God for the things he has done, doing, and will do
Live our preachings and teachings “in God we trust”
God will indeed elevate us.
Impossible is just an abbreviation for I am possible
