We Need Change, on that I Claim

I claim

I've been told to speak a certain way

To act like I belong

To change the way of my looks

That's like losing base of my roots

Latina or American they ask

Why can't I be both

I see myself on the edge of neither here nor there

Not welcomed in one

And kicked out of the other

I want to be from here and there

But I can't seem to find the words to share

My feelings get  hurt when I hear the news

“We are not all illegal”

I scream at the tv screen

Tears run down my chest

When I hear the nonsense

Separation of families

Is on the news once again

Acceptance they say is all it takes

But no progression has been made

Differences should not be the cause of our division

Appearances should not be the reasoning for our incoherences

This country needs to change their say

But no actions are made today

“The melting pot” is what they say we are

Diversity is what  they claim

Yet the blame when defaults are made

Arent on him nor her

Minorities are to blame is what they claim

That needs to end

We need change

I want change

But, if you nor I can speak

Then who will do such thing

I've listened and Ive waited

But representation has yet to change

When will it be the day

My brothers and sisters can say “Yes...

We are different … yet we become one,”

On that I claim
