We the people

We fear to show our culture and tradition

Judged by society because of where we come from

Fearing coming home to no one

And not an eyelash is bat to check up on the little ones

We wave our flag yelling “si se puede”

Arriving at a country with hopes and dreams

Only to be met with prejudice and screams

Detention centers; chanting, “que no se queden”

“Taking jobs others wouldn’t dare to look upon

Working dusk till dawn

The core of a well oiled machine,

Only never to be seen

We work for wages many wouldn't settle for

Constantly making sacrifices that go ignored

Tolerating abuse no one should

I just wish we weren’t so misunderstood

Violence and fear is what I escape

Not what I bring

Perhaps it’s us who made a mistake

In thinking they could end our suffering
