We Will Stand
You can chain us up-
And lock us all away,
But our souls will break free-
Even if our bodies stay.
You can silence us,
And do us many wrongs-
You can deafen the masses,
But you'll never stop our song.
You can break us down,
And laugh as we cry,
But your days are numbered-
By the Judge Who sits on high.
You can sit content-
Glutted on fear you caused,
But remember at the end-
Your own soul will be the cost.
You can feed yourself-
On creating despair,
But the poison that you give-
Will become your dying air.
So you can chain us-
Until your heart's content...
But you will never conquer-
Humanity's full extent.
For you can't take the sky,
And you can't stop our prayers-
You can't take away our hope-
Even if you take our air.
And you can't take our love-
And you can't hush our song-
You can try to take freedom,
But your days won't be long.
For we have a freedom-
That you don't understand-
Chain, beat, curse us as you will-
God's own people - we will stand.
