Weakly Strong
To those who feel
different from
everyone else.
Whose emotions bubble up
in confusing masses
that don’t always
make sense.
Our hearts beat strong
but our voices are not.
The quiet ones.
The loud ones.
The hateful ones.
Those ill in body and mind.
The courageous ones who
stand up in fear
of all things unknown.
People we see
that go unnoticed
because we think
they are different.
These people whose minds
are turned against their souls,
and bodies that repeat
all of the motions
like a broken record
fizzing in,
and out.
We wake each day
like all of the rest.
Never seeing
all the people around
who feel so violently,
but can not explain
when they cry.
Who can not tell others
of all the years,
and lives,
and emotions,
pushing to break out
of our silent chests.
To the lost.
To the lonely.
To the ones who fight a war
no one else can see.
We wake,
and rise,
and fall asleep.
Each heart that beats
and connects with you
in a way that screams
we too are human.
Do not disregard
the ones you don’t like.
Please take a look
at these monsters
residing in you.
In me.
Look onto others.
Look at us all.
See that everyone
you know
is human.
We all experience
these horrible feelings.
The desire for violence
we all deny,
to lash out
and strike someone dead.
Yearning for love
and receiving affection
to return
ten-fold.
A pessimistic mind;
a body free
from fear
and all of the beasts
lurking inside.
Invisible beings
that bite,
and scratch,
and no one protects us
no matter how hard
they try.
Why can’t you see
all this torment
we endure?
Why won’t you turn around
and look at me?
Those are the monsters
we face.
Day in
and day out.
Don’t you feel guilty?
Just walking away
as we struggle
to live?
You should be ashamed.
If it’s me you don’t like
then go
and help them.
They blend in the crowd
out of sight,
out of mind.
Our talents all lay
in the masks
we create.
We are the lost,
the lonely,
the dead.
Goddamnit, just look
and tell me
you can not see
all of us screaming
as our demons devourer
what you lot left
of our shattered minds
and fragile hearts.
Look goddamnit!
And help us
before we drag you down,
too.
