Week at Shady Creek

Monday morning, early morning

Lines at the buses, children always moving

Us cabin leaders go on first, kids second.

3 hours later, we are here

Shady Creek Outdoor School

Residential science camp

And us scientists have arrived.

Monday brought excitement

Great food, great people

Pizza for lunch, everyone’s favorite

Unpacking our luggage in our cabin

Bunk beds!

Fun and games at recreation

Music time at the amphitheatre

A night hike with Otter

Bedtime snack followed by bedtime.

Tuesday was our first full day

Cabin time with my girls

BOOMSHAKALAKA!

Tree #2 with Rhododendron as our leader

A hike and learning about trees

All. Kinds. Of. Trees.

Cabin time, then music time

Cabin leader meeting with our coordinator Wolfe

Recreation with snacks and games and Gaga Ball!

Eco-Kid Summit in the dining hall

Bedtime snack followed by bedtime.

Wednesday was the same as Tuesday

Cabin time with my girls

BOOMSHAKALAKA!

Tree #2 with Rain as our leader

Creek day with invertebrates

Wet kids on the coldest day

Not good.

Cabin time, then music time

Cabin leader meeting with our coordinator Wolfe

Recreation with snacks and games and Sharks and Minnows!

Skit night at the amphitheatre

Cloud won $10 in a naturalist competition

Bedtime snack followed by bedtime.

Thursday brought homesickness

Cabin time with my girls

BOOMSHAKALAKA!

Tree #2 with Anemone as our leader

Discovery Den and animal skulls

Hike about lichen

Naturalist rock and roll band for music time

ROCK ON!

Cabin leader meeting with our coordinator Wolfe

Recreation with snacks and games and Gaga Ball!

Fun night!

From dining hall to dance floor

Wacky clothes and loud music

Bedtime snack followed by bedtime.

Friday signaled our last day

Packing our luggage

Cleaning our cabins

BOOMSHAKALAKA!

One last cabin leader meeting

Tears in my eyes, the week was over

Putting luggage into the trailers while kids did their thing

One last music time in the amphitheatre

At the top, us cabin leaders, arms around each other

Autographs from our favorite naturalists

Pictures with our friends

Boarding buses

Waving goodbye

On our way home.

Shady Creek was the best week of my life

Interaction with kids

Learning in a fun way

An unforgettable experience

Shady Creek naturalist job, here I come!

The kids, my inspiration

Shady Creek, my home.
