Weeping Mother

Frightened whispers among the children.

Mothers give the nightly warning,

Don’t leave my side.

For lost children she is searching.

One mistake, one hasty decision.

All that is needed to cause regret,

Now she roams forever curse.

Mi Hijos! Mi Hijos! My children.

The river hid their screams.

No one to answer their pleas,

Small bodies washed away.

No mother to kiss them goodnight.

Her tearful eyes looking for what was once hers.

Her screams a reminder to anyone who listens,

Ready to teach a mother a lesson.

What mother will leave her children?
