weeping willow tree

i stand as tall as a weeping willow tree

since planted, ive been taught the meaning of 'free'

i grow my roots deep in the ground,

so when i get lost, i just look around

and i can find my way back home.

where the bees reside in their hives,

filling our bellies with honeycomb.

and the sky a permanent sunrise,

where i dont have to apologize,

just for being who i am.

where there are jars of homemade strawberry jam,

ready to spread on fresh bread,

welcoming good thoughts inside my head

and leaving the bad ones at the door.

it makes loving me not feel like a chore.

and i have you to thank for that,

showing me to wear confidence like a hat

because no one's opinion defines me.

so i will hold my head high with a smile from cheek to cheek,

and i will stand as tall as a weeping willow tree,

because you taught me just how to be,

free.
