The Weight of Capes
Can I save the world?
Heck no!
I’m just one girl.
A weird one at that.
When I see sunsets,
I imagine a Batman symbol on it.
When I walk home,
I imagine seeing Peter Parker as my perfect fit.
When I’m alone,
I wonder if there is a hero to save us from loneliness
And I wonder
What is it like being a hero.
Is it really as bad as D.C. and Marvel say it is?
Or is it like walking on thread?
A hero fights for what is right!
So what is a villain?
They do the same in their eyes.
So why don’t superheroes fight as villain and hero do?
Oh wait,
They do.
You know why?
Because a hero to me
Is not the same as it is to you.
The Good, the Bad, the Confused
The notion of emotion
That you get to choose!
I’m sorry I’m not Black Widow
I’m sorry I’m not Harley Quinn
But it’s your choice kiddo!
I’m saving your kin!
I’m trying to protect you!
I’m trying to keep you safe!
God damn the weight of this cape,
It’s driving me insane!
I’m not bad.
I’m just not your hero
So who’s side are you on?
The little guys?
Or the general good?
But no matter what you choose,
You’ll never please all
And you’ll want to run and hide
All because this world will never be satisfied.
History had its eye on you!
And it will watch you!
Through mistakes
Crawls
Falls
And it will never let you forget it
And you’ll want to run, and hide.
All because
We the people,
Will never be satisfied.
