Welcome to The Masquerade
I could sit there for hours in the lonely paradox that is a crowded vicinity, basking in the sweet
seclusion offered by the confinements of my mind.
Oceans of people engulf me, forming hordes of minds,
bodies, and souls that evaporate into existence, all born into their own unique personas.
Although some may view this mess as a variety of worlds to conquer I know that they'll never truly equate to perfect company, because while they are busy ogling at the pettiest details of their minute existence I sit alone to observe, glaring at the smiles of strangers, trying to decipher who is real and who is a sham in this imperfect world of ours.
I honestly don't think I've ever seen anything more terrifying, analyzing an exchange
between two souls only to discover that their honeyed words and dimpled smiles were merely acts of
faux kindness.
But bared teeth aren't smiles, nor are we perfect angels on this Earth, regardless of how hard we pretend to be.
That's all anybody really is in this world, marvelous pretenders looking for impressionable minds to stun with their masked hypocrisy.
But despite the deceitful nature of the masquerade ball, attending it is my favorite pastime,
because I don't want to live a sheltered existence.
I want to know the human mind, and know what makes it tick, and I want to reach the epiphany that hypocrisy is a common sin amongst us all,
because we all want to feel like we form part of the convoluted jigsaw puzzle that is life even if it's for a little while,
even if our golden masks start corroding away at the surface, revealing the bronze that lingers underneath the precious metal.
So here it is, my most cordial of invitations in which I ask you my dear readers to accompany me
to the most lavish of parties.
Together we can restore bronze back to gold in our futile attempts at bringing truth back into the world, remaining oblivious to our own bouts of hypocrisy.
