Wendy's Heart

Late one evening in mid July,

As a blanket of stars rolled across the sky,

Wendy Darling awoke from a dream

To see a figure there in the moon’s silver beam.

She opened her eyes when she heard a soft sound,

As he gently flew in and his feet touched the ground.

Small and spritely, not quite yet a man,

“Hello,” he said, “My name’s Peter Pan.”

With those 5 words her world was changed,

The planets aligned, the starts rearranged.

Before her stood her future, you see,

Though she didn’t yet know what would come to be.

Come with me and let fate be your guide,

Close tight your eyes, let your heart open wide.

Come soar through the sky as you take my hand,

And we’ll live happily forever in sweet Neverland.

Smiling sweetly, Wendy slipped from her bed,

As thoughts of adventure filled her young head.

She took his hand and they flew off into the night,

Following the star ‘til they saw morning’s light.

But life there in Neverland was not what she’d dreamed,

Peter wasn’t quite the young mad he had seemed.

Her played and frolicked all through the day,

Ne’er did he listen to a thing Wendy’d say.

He left clothes on the floor and cups in the sink,

He hated to bathe so quite often he’d stink.

He did not hunt or forage to prepare any meal,

And he did not seem to care how this made Wendy feel.

He said that she bickered and nagged at him too,

And with Lost Boys all over, the house was a zoo.

Wendy grew tired of his frat house-type life,

His irresponsibility was constant and rife.

Sadly, the bliss she had hoped never did come,

And she found disappointment in this life that was glum.

Until one day a surprise met her at dawn,

When tall handsome knocked with his sword drawn.

Wendy’s pulse quickened and her knees went quite weak,

He was so strong and so handsome, her heart skipped a beat.

“Come out and face me, you coward Peter Pan.”

“Come out here to face me and fight like a man.”

His voice was so deep, his shoulders so broad

His appearance was perfect, not a single thing flawed.

One look at his face and that’s all it took,

Dear Wendy had fallen for the Captain called Hook.

This could not be the heathen that Peter spoke of,

He offered his good hand, with it’s pristine white glove.

I’m delighted to meet you Wendy, my dear,

Please know that from me you have nothing to fear.

Let me take you away to a life on the sea,

Each day I will pamper you, just wait and you’ll see.

You are beautiful like a rare precious jewel,

Don’t stay here with this juvenile fool.

Wendy was smitten, her heart was ablaze,

For this strong handsome man with his chivalrous ways.

She took his hand and they sailed off in the sun,

And that is how Wendy’s heart was finally won.
