We're on Our Way

Walking onto the grand stage

In flowing golden gowns,

Flashing back to memories,

Hats and tassles worn like crowns.

Looking out at the audience,

Feet securely on the ground,

Hearts racing, breaths taken,

The enourmous crowd surrounds.

Diplomas passed from hand to hand,

We're ready to take flight,

Ready to let go and gain,

Our future's cleary bright,

Although this is not an end,

Just a start to our dreams,

Memories forever more,

We've made it as a team,

So congratulations to everyone

Who is sitting here today,

As you can see we've made it,

And now were on our way.

this is one of my favorite poems

My favorite thing about this poem is the meaning it has to me, I didnt even intend to write it when i did. When about to graduate 8th grade every student graduating was required to write a poem as an assignment for english, I really didnt want to do it but of course I did and its strange how everything came naturally to me. After all the poems were submitted the English teachers met and chose the best two which would be featured in the commencement brochure at graduation. I rememer the day I was informed that I won. It was warm out, I was sitting i Spanish class second period that morning and the teacher gets a call to send me to the office. I get up and walk out of the room, my heart was racing. I've never been called to the office before, it was probably dress code, it was the one day i wanted to try and look cute so i wore this little blue ruffle skirt, I nudged it down was a walked down the empty hallway with my heart beating out of my chest. Once I arrived at the principals office there was another boy from my grade already standing there. I was hit with a wave of confusion especially as I saw my principal smiling. She informed us our poems had made it and expresssed how proud she was of us. I was completely and utterly schocked and to this day I will not forget about that day or this poem.
